The Recorder's Office serves as the keeper of the real estate records for Big Stone County. Our land records date back to the late 1870's, and we have the history of all Big Stone County land transactions recorded since that time. We are also the Office of Vital Statistics and can provide you with certified copies of:
  • Birth certificates
  • Death certificates
  • Marriage certificates

Unfortunately, since we are a county office and replacing or correcting social security cards is a federal matter, I suggest you check You will be able to enter your zip code to find the social security office nearest you. Our office does have an Application for a Social Security Card form, along with instructions for replacing or amending your social security card.
