How to Apply

To apply for a county position please fill out an application for employment, resume, cover letter, and three professional references and submit it here.

To apply for a position within Big Stone County Family Services you must apply using the Minnesota Merit system.

All Big Stone County position openings (regardless of employment status or whether the vacancy is a replacement or a new position) shall be subject to review and approval by the County Board.

It shall be the policy of the County to recruit and select the most qualified persons available for positions in the County’s workforce. Employees of the County shall be encouraged to advance their career through promotion or transfer.  Employees will be selected based on their relative knowledge, skills, and abilities to ensure open competition among qualified applicants. 

When an opening is identified within the County, the opening may first be posted internally allowing current employees the opportunity to apply for the position.  If there are no qualified internal applicants, the County will advertise the opening locally and as determined by the Hiring Manager and the Human Resources Director as the best places to advertise to attract the best applicants for the position.   

The provisions of Minnesota Law (M.S. 197.455, et seq) relating to Veterans Preference in hiring shall be followed for all applicable, open-competitive positions.

The County is committed to selecting the most qualified applicant for each position, without regard to any protected class. The County reserves the right to reject all applicants and fill the position on a temporary or contractual basis if, in the sole discretion of the employer, an insufficient number of qualified applicants applied.
