Highway

Our Mission

To construct and maintain a system of highways and bridges, facilitating the safe and efficient movement of people and goods throughout the county.  We honor our mission with residents as well as visitors in mind.

About Us

The Big Stone County Highway Department is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the county roads and bridges. Programming of road and bridge construction includes project scheduling, surveys, design, right-of-way acquisition, and contract administration. The Department is responsible for completing annual bridge safety inspections of all bridges on or over public roadways, except those bridges on or over State highways.

Routine county highway maintenance includes road repair, grading, drainage, signing, snow removal, ice control, and minor road improvements. Budgeting and accounting of all construction and maintenance are accomplished and reported annually.

Gravel Road Maintenance

Minnesota’s Local Road Research Board produced a very informative video on why gravel roads are important and answered some common questions surrounding good gravel road maintenance.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) within Public Right-of-Way
