needed by families and businesses to work, learn, and connect. Large areas of the county have access to high-quality broadband. Big Stone County has made and will continue to make progress to give all residents access to this necessity.

Broadband Line Extension Connection Program
In the 2022 Legislative Session, the Office of Broadband Development (OBD) was directed to create a new program, the Broadband Line Extension Connection Program. The purpose of the program is to award grants for the extension of existing broadband infrastructure to unserved locations. An unserved location is a location that does not have a wired broadband service of at least 25Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload.

Local Internet Providers: Big Stone County has a number of internet service providers that cover different areas of the county. You can use their service availability tools to determine which provider is the best option for you.


Broadband Assistance: The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program that can provide short-term assistance to help those in need of affordable broadband with their monthly bill. 

Public Libraries: Pioneerland Library System has computers and devices available at their locations for the public to use. All branch locations also provide free public wi-fi and digital literacy resources.
